Hitting “Publish”

Ok, ok, ok. I get it, Lord. I need to be writing. And sharing. And listening. And sharing.

I’ve procrastinated, I’ve argued, I’ve ignored.

I’ve pleaded no talent, no time, not today.

So, for Mike, Dawn, Cassie, Heather, my Wednesday night ladies group, Brother Bob, it’s time. It’s today. Still not sure about the talent but here I am.

One of Mike’s favorite verses is also mine. Psalm 46:10 “Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.” Mike found an art print in the West Bottoms with the first part of this verse and wanted it. The 4′ square print would never find a home in our small house, so like the diy-ers we’ve always been, we came home with an inspiration. He dug a frame out of the garage that he had salvaged from our neighbors trash and restored. I got out acrylics, stencils and a poster board and we came up with a piece of art to fit us, our space, our decor, our lives.

I see this daily reminder to be still. I value the quiet time I carve out of every day, but once I lay down my Bible and leave my chair, chaos often ensues! In life, the phrase “hit the ground running” is much more descriptive than “Be still and know that I am God!”

So that’s where the idea of “be still, in motion” was formed. To find the “heart-itude” of stillness in God even while we keep up the pace of hectic lives.

I’ll be the first to admit that I often fail. I allow the pace of the day to derail my calm. However, coming back to center, to God’s majesty and protection stills my heart and mind. And my prayer is that my blog moving forward will honor His work in my life and perhaps inspire and encourage someone else along the way.

This morning I read Psalm 46 in my study of Psalms.

God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea. Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge! Interlude A river brings joy to the city of our God, the sacred home of the Most High. God dwells in that city; it cannot be destroyed. From the very break of day, God will protect it. The nations are in chaos, and their kingdoms crumble! God’s voice thunders, and the earth melts! The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us; the God of Israel is our fortress. Interlude Come, see the glorious works of the Lord : See how he brings destruction upon the world. He causes wars to end throughout the earth. He breaks the bow and snaps the spear; he burns the shields with fire. “Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.” The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us; the God of Israel is our fortress. Interlude
Psalms 46:1‭-‬11 NLT.”

In the face of adjusting to life as a widow (36 days, if you are counting), transitions at work, a large active family with many needs and a world in fright over Covid19 it is comforting, and indeed critical, to know God is our refuge and our strength.

I don’t know if I will post daily, weekly or sporadicly. But today, I start to share my heart, my experiences, my faith, my Jesus.

In the stillness, I know that He is God. In motion, I strive to keep His stillness in my heart. In practice, I need work.

So, I’m going to hit “publish” now and am not sure what happens next – how to share this, where to distribute, how to see comments – but if you’re reading it, I apparently did something correctly!
